Belts and Hoses

Buyer's Guide To Jaguar And Land Rover Belts And Hoses

What Belts Do

There are three types of belts in your Jaguar or Land Rover vehicle, excluding the seat belts. The timing belt helps the crankshaft and engine camshaft run in sync while also helping to prevent parts from bashing into each other. If it goes bad, you'll know right away -- because your engine will stop running. Newer models likely have a more durable timing chain rather than a timing belt, though.

Serpentine belts and drive belts are responsible for moving everything from the alternator to your power steering, water pump, and HVAC system. When these fail, you usually have time to resolve the issue before things worsen.

What Hoses Do

Hoses route liquids to and from parts like your radiator, which uses hoses to route coolant to and from the engine, and the fuel hoses that connect the gas tank to the engine.

How Do You Recognize Bad Belts and Hoses?

Sadly, even the best belts and hoses can fail. Signs of trouble include:

• Overly loose or slack belts
• Belts that are too tight to move
• Cracked hoses
• Fraying belt edges
• Large pools of liquid gathered under your vehicle
