Jaguar XJ History

While the Jaguar XJ sedan was first offered in 1968, you're most likely driving one from the final generation offered between 2010 and 2019. Longer and wider than the first three generations, this version of the four-door luxury car enjoyed a more aggressive looking demeanor.

Jaguar XJ Features

The engine roster backed that up, with turbocharged four-cylinder, supercharged V6, and V8 gas options offered, as well as a twin-turbo V6 diesel powerplant. Rear-wheel drive came standard, with either six- or eight-speed automatic transmissions teaming to the engines.

Final generation models were equipped with such standard features as anti-lock. brakes, heated steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system, and a backup camera. Options included dual-screen entertainment system, smartphone integration, power sunshade, and massaging rear seats.

Common Jaguar XJ Problems

While owners haven't reported any notable issues with their sedans, Jaguar has issued several recalls that may apply to your specific model. Those were for concerns such as:

  • Problems with the air bags not deploying properly in a crash
  • The engine crankshaft pulley bolt fracturing and causing engine failure
  • The instrument cluster blanks out while you're driving
  • Brake fluid leaks
  • Electrical shorts due to the positive battery cable loosening
  • Wiper arms loosing synchronization and clashing
